Good news for some 30 million French households, Prime Minister Michel Barnier confirmed Thursday, November 28 renounce the increase in electricity taxes in the 2025 budget. And the abandonment of such a measure should allow “a drop in electricity prices of 14%which will therefore go well beyond the 9% reduction initially planned,” said the Prime Minister.
However, this does not mean that households will pay less taxes on electricity in 2025 than in 2024. Indeed, taxes will gradually increase due to the planned removal of the tariff shield in 2025. Concretely, this will result in an increase in excise duties on electricitywhich will return to their “normal” level of 33.78 euros/MWh, adjusted for inflation, next February.
