Free launches a limited edition Freebox Ultra, transparent and lit in red

Free is launching a limited edition Freebox Ultra anniversary for its 25th anniversary. This is transparent and has customizable red LEDs.

It's stupid, but devilishly effective in getting people talking about yourself. This is how we could describe this limited edition Freebox Ultra. Free had prepared an announcement for December 3, and it is therefore a transparent version of its high-end box, surrounded by a band of red LEDs.

On the shell, we can read “1999 – 2024” and “25 years”, because this rather special box is a way of “celebrating” its “quarter century”. It thus has a transparent shell tinted with red. Free cites the designs of “iconic products from the 90s like the Game Boy Color or the iMac” as inspiration. The transparency obviously allows you to see the components inside.

Like a Nothing Phone, Free has decided to combine transparency and customizable red LEDs. Also a way to get closer to “RGB customizations that can be found on computer towers and peripherals such as keyboards, mice or screens” writes the operator.

Some customization tools

The Freebox Connect application, well known to Free users, allows you to choose between six animations:

  • Static mode for constant light
  • Breathing mode for a pulsating effect
  • Rain mode for dynamic animation
  • Wave mode for a smooth effect
  • Organic fashion for a natural ambiance
  • Chase mode for sequential scrolling

It is also possible to vary the brightness or simply turn off the light strip.

A Freebox Ultra like the others

For the rest, this Freebox Ultra Limited Edition retains the characteristics of a Freebox Ultra. We find symmetrical speeds up to 8 Gbit/s, support for WiFi 7 as well as
quatre ports Ethernet 2.5 Gbit/s.

If you wish to opt for this box, two offers include it, Freebox Ultra Essential at 39.99 euros for 1 year then 49.99 euros per month, or the Freebox Ultra offer at 49.99 euros for 1 year then 59, 99 euros. Those who are already subscribed to these offers can also make the request, just like Free subscribers to other offers. It will cost them 49 euros.

Free does not communicate “the exact number of copies available, but specifies that stocks are very limited. » Quite an unsubtle way of creating a sense of urgency.
