The Quebec banner Jack Le Coq, specializing in fried chicken, was acquired by the Abbatiello Group, which has an ambitious growth plan including the opening of five restaurants in the Quebec region in 2025.
The Abbatiello Group, which is a third-generation family business, owns the Pizza Salvatoré brands, founded in 1964 and purchased by the siblings in 2018, as well as Topla! and Crèmerie Chez Mamie.
To this list, we can now add the name Jack Le Coq, which currently has five establishments in Quebec, concentrated in the Montreal region. This chain was founded by Jacques Gaspo, aka Jack, and quickly established itself as a popular destination for fried chicken lovers.
This strategic acquisition is part of the Abbatiello Group’s ambitious objective of reaching 500 restaurants by December 2029 for all brands in Quebec.
“It’s a menu style that is growing strongly in the United States. We believed in the strong growth potential of the chain, which is already seeing excellent results without even promoting the brand. So, for us, it was super interesting to buy Jack Le Coq,” shared Élisabeth Abbatiello, vice-president of communications and outreach and partner of the Group.

Spring 2025
“We bought Jack Le Coq with the aim of strong expansion. We have already purchased a few commercial buildings in Quebec City to accommodate Jack Le Coq,” she continued.
The new owners plan five to six openings in Quebec in 2025, including the first starting next spring. Among the chosen locations, Mme Abbatiello cites among others the names of Beauport, Charlesbourg and Sainte-Foy. Centre-du-Québec is also in the Group’s sights, which plans expansion through the sale of franchises.
“We hope to bring the chain to at least a hundred restaurants in Quebec,” she added.
Jack Le Coq, according to Mme Abbatiello, became known thanks to “its authentic menu, retro cuisine that pays homage to Quebec, while being adapted to the modern era.”
“We are really happy to have been able to purchase a concept developed by Jacques Gaspo, who is very well known in the restaurant industry in Quebec. He is one of the co-founders of Foodtastic, one of the largest restaurant franchisors in Canada,” declared the vice-president of communications.
“We were super happy to be able to buy a concept from Jacques,” she added.
The transaction had been under negotiation for several months.
“Jacques Gaspo was not for sale. The channel was already doing very well. For us, it’s a concept in which we believe enormously and we wanted to start from an existing concept which has already proven itself to expand rapidly. We were very aggressive on the price and ultimately, that tipped it, but initially it wasn’t for sale.”
