Desjardins is laying off 35 of its workers at Complexe Desjardins, in Montreal, and a dozen on rue des Commandeurs, in Lévis, a few weeks before Christmas, noted Le Journal.

“In an organization of 55,000 employees like Desjardins, there are regular adjustments within different teams, and it happens in certain situations that difficult decisions are made,” indicated to the Journal Jean-Benoît Turcotti, spokesperson for Desjardins.

“Obviously, everything is done to ensure a transition for those affected in order to place them back in the organization, if possible,” he adds without providing further details.

$2.25 error

Those affected learned the bad news on November 29. Their last day of work will be February 21, if the dismissal notice is anything to go by.

Last Friday, the financial institution had to correct an error after inadvertently charging “account maintenance” fees to some customers.

Even though the amount of $2.25 taken was not large, the cooperative financial group quickly recognized its fault and made an immediate reimbursement.
