Since the announcement of the vast wave of layoffs at Auchan, employees at the Petite Forêt store in the North have been fixed: 11 sales advisor positions will be eliminated.
However, less than 10 km away, there is a scent of celebration that hovers around the Auchan store in Valenciennes. Nicknamed the “little Auchan“, it had been under construction for several months. But on November 27, 2024, the newly renovated store will be inaugurated.
This discrepancy between the two neighboring stores does not please Hervé Sénéca, FO union representative of the Valenciennois living area. “Tomorrow, they are doing the inauguration for the opening of the little Auchan in Valenciennes, we are revolted“, he says. “They go to drink champagne and eat petits fours, and 5 km away, there are layoffs and a PSE.“
In response, a mobilization is planned for November 27 at 5 p.m. in front of the Valenciennes store. “We know that our management invited mayors, prefects and political figures for the occasion. We will try to challenge them“, continues the trade unionist.
It is in the household appliances, TV, telephone and IT departments that management has decided to eliminate 11 sales advisor positions. In a press release, FO denounces a “brutal decision by the Auchan group“, a “social injustices.”
The union then asks “the opening of real fair negotiations and priority reclassifications in their store, see in the Mulliez group.” Tuesday November 5, 2024, the northern distributor Auchan presented to its staff representatives a draft social plan which threatens 2,389 jobs throughout France.
