Here’s what you absolutely must do before Tuesday evening if you’re expecting a refund

After filing their tax return in April, some taxpayers may have received a message from the tax authorities informing them of a future refund coming to their bank account. A necessary and often welcome regularization, which nevertheless requires some checks to be made imperatively before this Tuesday evening.

After this July 2nd 11:59 p.m., it could be too late for tens of thousands of taxpayers. As every year at the same time, some French people will receive a refund from the tax authorities during the month of July.

Payments that concern taxpayers whose amount collected in 2023 is higher than the final amount of their tax, or those who are entitled to a refund of tax reductions or credits.

But to be sure that the corresponding amount actually arrives in their bank account, those concerned are advised to carry out a check.

Make sure of your bank details

In a recent press release, the Ministry of Economy and Finance reminds us that we must “remember to check our bank details to simplify the reimbursement or payment of our tax”. A step to be taken before July 2, 2024, 11:59 p.m.

To do this, simply go to the website impots.gouv.fr. Once referenced on the platform via your usual identifiers, you must then go to the “withholding tax” section and “Update your bank details”.

In fact, it is the bank account referenced in his personal space on the tax website that will be used to make said reimbursement. In the event of an error or change of banking institution, it is therefore advisable to correct or update his bank details.

A procedure that is completely secure and is done by sending a unique code by SMS or email. Note that it is also advisable to check that the telephone number entered in your personal space is the correct one. Without Internet access, it is also possible to update your bank details by calling 0809.401.401.

Regarding the key dates for reimbursement, this should take place “in most cases on July 24 or 31, 2024,” Bercy further specifies.

An amount to pay for others

Note that there is another case where the taxpayer would have paid an insufficient amount of tax for the year 2023 or would have received excessive reductions or tax credits last January.

In this configuration, the taxpayers concerned will have to pay an amount that will be debited from their bank account from September 26. The corresponding sum will be debited in four installments if it exceeds 300 euros.
