If you drive an electric Volkswagen or Audi, be careful: a series of reminders affects some models of both brands, mainly due to critical safety issues related to the braking systems due to missing screws and battery.

Current recalls on Volkswagen and Audi models

The current series of recalls involves several models based on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group, including the popular Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7 as well as the Audi Q4 e-tron. In parallel, the Audi e-tron GT has also been targeted by a critical recall, but for a completely separate problem relating to its battery.

The information comes directly from Rappel Conso, an initiative based on data collected by the European Rapid Notification System for dangerous non-food products. This portal details defects that could compromise user safety, and in this case, the defects are quite serious to require immediate intervention.

Braking problems on MEB platforms

The first alert concerns a problem with the electronic stabilization control unit (ESP) of MEB vehicles. The problem lies in the fact that up to three screws may be missing on the pump motor of this unit. This absence could result in:

  • The engine detachment
  • A brake system failure hydraulic

This situation clearly increases the risk of accidents and injuries – a scenario that every driver wants to avoid. To date, it seems that models such as the Skoda Enyaq or the Volkswagen ID. Buzz are not affected, but vigilance is still required.

The specific case of the Audi e-tron GT

Besides that, the Audi e-tron GT faces a very different but equally serious type of problem. Specifically regarding the traction battery, some modules may have anomalies on key parameters, which would increase the risk of module failure concerned. This type of problem not only poses a risk of breakdown but also of fire, thus amplifying concerns for the safety of drivers and passengers.

It’s worth noting that the Audi e-tron GT shares its platform with the Porsche Taycan, which has had similar issues in the past. This highlights the importance of continuous monitoring of vehicles that share common components and technologies.

Recommendations to owners of affected vehicles

Whether you own a model affected by these recalls or not, it is recommended that you act proactively. Owners of affected vehicles should check their contact details with their dealer to be sure to receive any communication directly. The Alerte Conso site suggests contacting your car dealer where checks and repairs will be carried out free of charge.

While waiting for further information from Audi and Volkswagen, please remain vigilant and monitor your inbox for any direct notifications that may reach you via email or post.

The recalls, while disturbing, show how responsive manufacturers are to potential risks. They highlight the importance of effective monitoring and control systems for car safety, thus increasing users’ confidence in their electric vehicle choices, in order to drive not only in style, but also in safety.
