Already plagued by a production delay, the Volvo EX90 would arrive on the market but without some of its features, which will be gradually deployed on the vehicle.

If with its new EX30, Volvo has quickly managed to make a place for itself among the best-selling electric vehicles, we can’t wait to see its big brother, the EX90, arrive on our roads. A true technological showcase, particularly in terms of safety with its LiDAR on the top of the windshield (and its 5 radars, 7 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, etc.), it is also expected by drivers looking for a zero-emission (exhaust) vehicle with 7 seats. After an ignition delay, production of the EX90 began in early June at the factory in Charleston, South Carolina. Enough to reassure customers who have placed orders for this 5.04 meter behemoth, and whose deliveries begin in the second half of 2024. Yes except that they may not have quite the vehicle they are waiting for in their hands.

Not even Apple CarPlay

Indeed, if we know that it was software problems that put the big SUV behind its initial schedule, it would seem that there are still some after-effects. And that Volvo prefers not to take more time to deliver to its customers, even if it means missing some functions. Thus, the American site Motor1 received a message from a customer of the Volvo EX90 forwarding an e-mail from the Swedish manufacturer explaining that some SUV features ‘may be delayed’. Understand by this that they will not be available on the first vehicles delivered. In reality, itThis is a whole list of features that have been passed on, whether they concern security (LiDAR, intersection warning, traffic alert with automatic braking, cornering speed assistant), infotainment with the absence of Apple Carplay) or battery charging (plug & charge, bidirectional and smart charging).

Further updates

Obviously, pFor a car which appears on the configurator at a minimum of €89,500, or which can even rise depending on the finishes or choice of engine to more than €110,000, excluding options, we cannot offer a system as common as Apple CarPlay that we find as standard in certain city cars, it doesn’t look very good. Not to mention the missing safety features even though Volvo is renowned for being the safest car manufacturer in the world. But customers can rest assured, these are all features that can be deployed subsequently on the first EX90s delivered, either through simple updates or through a dealership. For the moment this email only concerns deliveries of EX90 to the USA, the first market delivered, while we have to wait a little longer before seeing the SUV arrive here.
