The Federal Railways plans to set up an operational base in Cornaux, in the future regional economic center located on the Marais-aux-Chevaux site. The State of Neuchâtel indicates this in a press release published Monday morning. The CFF already has such a structure, located in the Portes-Rouges district of Neuchâtel, but it will have to be moved, because it is located at the location planned for the tunnel portal of the direct line Neuchâtel-La Chaux-de-Fonds. The idea is to relocate to Cornaux the functionalities that will be removed in Neuchâtel.
Furthermore, the State notes that the planning stage of this regional economic center “sees the end of the tunnel”, with some adaptations. The conceptualization of the site began in 2013. Initially, the idea was to establish economic, industrial and commercial activities there. The rise of online commerce is reducing the needs in this last category, which is pushing the Municipality of Cornaux and the Canton of Neuchâtel to consider allowing the hosting of economic activities also on plots of land normally allocated to commerce. The General Council of Cornaux will be informed on December 9 of the adaptations to the special plan deemed necessary to carry out this adaptation. The Council of State will then be able to sanction the plan. This must include a service road, adaptation of the road junction to the increased traffic and the creation of a soft mobility bridge. /comm-jhi
