Carrefour, Leclerc, Franprix… Goat cheese contaminated with E. coli recalled throughout France

Several references of goat cheese are being recalled this Friday, announces the government site Rappel Conso. These are sold throughout France in several points of sale and distribution networks.

Be careful in the cheese section. Different references of crottins de Chavignol, goat cheese, distributed throughout France and in numerous points of sale, are recalled.

According to the government website Rappel Conso, they are contaminated with E. coli bacteria. Another reference is contaminated with salmonella, the agent responsible for salmonellosis.

Cheese contaminated with E. coli

· Our regions have talent

For this first product from the Leclerc distributor brand, the batch concerned (L123 01, reference GTIN 3564709006437) was marketed throughout France in all the brand’s stores between May 21, 2024 and June 27, 2024. According to Rappel Conso, These cheeses come in the form of two 60g plastic portions and have a date of minimum durability of June 29, 2024.

· Franprix

For this blister pack, which only has one 60g portion, the E. coli-contaminated reference to look for is lot 123-01. The recall sheet mentions marketing in all Franprix stores and those in the brand’s network between May 23, 2024 and June 27, 2024. The packaging bears the GTIN identification code (3263859356514) and the minimum durability date June 29, 2024.

· Chavignol AOP goat cheese

For this product, distribution is surely the most important. Rappel Conso indicates that lot 123-01 of the Crottin de Chavignol AOP brand was sold in Monoprix, Carrefour, Leclerc, Casino stores and the Rians dairy store (Cher) between May 22, 2024 and June 27, 2024. These cheeses come in blister packs of two portions of 60g each and bear the durability date until June 29, 2024.

· Monoprix gourmet

Monoprix stores are cited a second time in this massive recall. This time with a product from the distributor’s Gourmet range. Lot 123-01 (GTIN 3350030112868), which comes in the form of a 60g plastic portion, was marketed between May 29, 2024 and June 27, 2024 throughout France. Its minimum durability date runs until June 29, 2024.

· Itinerary of our regions

Finally, it is the Intermarché product of the Itinéraire de nos régions brand that is also being recalled. The one concerned has the code 123-01 (GTIN 3250390155478) and was sold between May 21, 2024 and June 27, 2024. According to Rappel Conso, it comes in the form of a blister pack of two 60g portions.

Another product recalled for salmonella

E. coli is obviously not the only bacteria present in certain references of goat cheese. This time, a fourth recall sheet mentions six batches of the same product (pure goat cheese logs from the Cavet Picodons brand): 1806_5, AB127_0806, 1906_5, 1906_6, AB127_0806 and AB127_0806

The government platform indicates distribution through Métro, Carrefour, U, Leclerc and Intermarché stores between June 15, 2024 and June 24, 2024.

Bacteria not to be neglected

Whether E. coli or salmonella, these bacteria can be harmful to consumers. The first can lead to diarrhea, sometimes bloody, abdominal pain and vomiting, accompanied or not by fever, in the week following consumption of contaminated products.

“These symptoms can be followed (5 to 8% of cases) by severe kidney complications, mainly in children. People who have consumed [ces fromages] and who present this type of symptom are invited to consult their doctor without delay, informing them of this consumption as well as the place and date of purchase”, recommends Rappel Conso.

For salmonella, responsible for salmonellosis, food poisoning caused by these bacteria results in gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhea, vomiting) of sudden onset often accompanied by fever and headaches which generally occur 6 to 72 hours after consumption of contaminated products.

“These symptoms may be more pronounced in young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals and the elderly,” adds the government site.

Here too, people who have consumed these products and who present these symptoms are invited to consult their doctor. If there are no symptoms within 7 days after consuming the products concerned, there is no need to worry or seek medical advice.
