The American manufacturer once again shows that the European automobile market is in crisis.

Another symbol of the difficulties of the automobile industry in Europe. The American manufacturer Ford announced this Wednesday 4,000 job cuts in Europe by the end of 2027. « The company has suffered significant losses in recent years, and the industry's shift to electric vehicles and new competition has been very detrimental »explains Ford. The plan announced by the group concerns 14% of its workforce in Europe.

Of these deletions, 2,900 must affect Germany, 800 the United Kingdom and 300 the rest of Europe. Ford employs 174,000 people worldwide, including 28,000 on the Old Continent. In reality, this is a second deep cut in the European workforce of the blue oval brand. Last year, Ford had already announced the elimination of 3,800 jobs in Europe.

Ford suffers more than others

Manufacturers have invested heavily in recent years to design and offer electric cars. However, sales of these vehicles have been slowing down for a year in Europe, while competition from the Chinese is becoming stronger. Consequence: social plans are multiplying among automobile manufacturers and suppliers. In this difficult environment, Ford is suffering more than others. Long a pillar of the global automobile industry, the group continues to lose market share. Since the start of the year, it has been content with eighth place, with 3% of new vehicles sold.
