(Ecofin Agency) – Following the numerous oil and gas discoveries made there over the last two years, Namibia has positioned itself as a hub for oil and gas exploration work in Africa.

Oil and gas services provider Northern Ocean Ltd announced on Wednesday June 26 that it had been awarded a well drilling contract as part of oil and gas exploration activities in Namibia’s territorial waters.

The company did not provide specific information on the value of the contract or its contractor, which is potentially a multinational, considering that several companies of this size are active in the country.

The contract awarded to Northern Ocean Ltd specifically concerns the drilling of an exploration well in the Orange Basin, via its Deepsea Bollsta platform. A contract whose execution should begin at the end of 2024 for a contractual period of approximately 63 days.

This deal offers the company the opportunity to contribute to the potential identification of new oil and gas deposits in the Namibian Orange basin following those discovered in recent months by Shell, Galp and TotalEnergies.
