If recharging your electric car is easy when you have a detached house with a garage, it is not necessarily as easy when you live in a building. Good news: Avere has just published a barometer, with encouraging figures. Here they are.

To benefit from an optimal experience in an electric car, it is recommended to install a means of charging at home (wallbox type or reinforced socket). The result: savings on the cost of electricity compared to a public terminal and additional daily comfort.

Equipment that is easily installed when you live in a detached house with a garage, but which is less obvious when you live in collective housing. Good news: Avere France, particularly known for its barometers of public charging stations, has just launched its first assessment of terminal installations in collective housing. With encouraging figures.

Diverses solutions

Let’s start with a reminder: to be able to recharge your electric or hybrid car in a building, several choices are available.

The first consists of installing an individual terminal, where a cable is pulled for a terminal, but it is also possible to install, at the condominium level, shared terminals (in car parks where spaces are not allocated) or a collective infrastructure, where pre-wiring allows each resident to install a terminal according to their needs.

In any case, the “right to take” enshrined in French law makes the process easier, while the most recent buildings must already be pre-equipped.

Figures still low, but increasing

Now let’s focus on the numbers. Avere has therefore joined forces with AFOR (French Association of Charging Operators) and Enedis, manager of the electricity distribution network over almost the entire territory.

As of March 31, 2024, France counted 28,673 buildings having validated the installation a collective charging infrastructure, and 8,383 infrastructures already functional. These figures are certainly still low, representing respectively 10.6% and 3.1% of collective buildings in France, but increasing by respectively 6,4 % et 15,7 % compared to December 31, 2023.

As for individual installations, the barometer lists 15 996 charging points, an increase of 17,2 % compared to the fourth quarter of 2023. Please note, however, that this figure only represents the charging points installed by an AFOR member, and that the real number must be higher – for information purposes, 19 101 Individual charging points were supported by the Advenir incentive program as of March 31.

Encouraging figures, therefore, which can only advance the adoption of electric cars in France. For buildings that are not yet equipped, the densification of the public charging network also makes it increasingly easier to live on electricity on a daily basis.
