Tesla is still cooking. Their minivan would be in the kitchen. The source ? Elon Musk himself, but you shouldn’t take his word for it.

It seems that Tesla is looking to see the big picture. They are reportedly working on larger electric cars, and it is easy to understand the excitement surrounding such news. For years, minivans have been the vehicles of choice for families, large or small. A versatile type of product that will have left its mark on more than one person.

It is this interest that Elon Musk seems to want to exploit. By responding to two users X (formerly Twitter) asking him to create spacious and family cars, the CEO of Tesla voluntarily made some revelations. If he responded with a simple “OK” to one of them, the other had the privilege of receiving a slightly more interesting response.

He explains in his response that the Robovan is still under development, and that Tesla is also working on other projects that we don’t know anything about at the moment. Bigger electric cars perhaps? It’s impossible to know if the billionaire’s comments are to be taken at his word, but for the moment it’s better to take them with a grain of salt. After all, he’s been hinting at larger Tesla vehicles for years.

As Electrek explains, a spacious vehicle that has not yet been revealed is still in Tesla’s official roadmap since 2016, and the latter should not, according to them, be the robovan.

Still space?

If we really look at the question, it’s hard to believe that developing a minivan in 2024 is worth it for Tesla. Sales figures for this type of vehicle have been in free fall for several years, and other manufacturers no longer seem interested in the market, to the point that most of them simply no longer develop them.

Today, companies are much more interested in the SUV market, which is quite different. An SUV is everything we love about 4x4s and MPVs. They are robust, all-terrain, and spacious for large families. If minivans tend to be more spacious and prioritize passenger comfort, they are on the other hand less versatile.
