New incident for Boeing aircraft. This Saturday, June 22, 2024, a Korean Air 737 Max flying from Seoul to Taichung (Taiwan) suffered a brutal fall of 27,000 feet (around 8,000 m) in 15 minutes. The aircraft turned around to make an emergency landing at the departure airport.

17 people were injured during this incident, which occurred 50 minutes after takeoff. It was the pilots who made the decision to bring the plane down after a pressurization problem, which the company confirmed this Tuesday, June 25, indicating that it was investigating the incident.

As a reminder, the pressurization system regulates the pressure within the aircraft.

“No serious injuries to passengers”

Due to this pressurization failure, 17 passengers required treatment, but did not suffer serious injuries, the company said. According to Taipei Times, passengers mainly suffered d’hyperventilation and of eardrum pain.

A passenger testified to our colleagues, indicating that the children on board were crying when the oxygen masks were released and he was afraid the plane would hit the ground.

Another passenger sensed something was wrong because the plane seemed to be hovering in the air and the flight attendants remained seated.

“We are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities to shed light on the circumstances of the incident,” added Korean Air, which presented its “apologies to all those concerned”.

Boeing’s black streak continues

Boeing has been increasing production and quality control problems on several models of its commercial aircraft for several months.

Last week, the CEO of the aircraft manufacturer, Dave Calhoun, recognized during a hearing before the US Senate the “seriousness” of the situation in this area.

In January, the door of an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 came loose in mid-flight, forcing the aircraft to make an emergency landing.

The American Department of Justice warned in mid-May of a risk of criminal proceedings against the aircraft manufacturer for non-compliance with an agreement concluded in January 2021 after the crashes in 2018 and 2019 of two 737 MAX 8s, which had 346 deaths in total.
