If accepted, Asloca fears a wave of unfounded terminations.
One week before the federal votes, opposition to revisions to tenancy law is gaining ground. According to the latest SSR survey published on Wednesday, easing the conditions for termination of the lease by the owner received 53% no, compared to 44% yes. A failure seems to be looming for the real estate circles and the bourgeois camp which supports the project, while the debates have until then mainly focused on the question of subletting.
For the Swiss Tenants’ Association (Asloca), however, the fight was far from won in advance. “It’s a delicate subject in that the common sense argument hits the mark. Indeed, who could reasonably support the idea that a person who owns a home is prevented from living there?” notes Fabrice Berney, general secretary of Asloca Vaud.
