At the 2023 Munich Motor Show, Bmw presented its “Neue Klasse” concept car then the brand renewed the operation with the “Neue Klasse Vision X” concept car in March 2024. These two concept cars announced, for one, a sedan, for the other, an SUV. With these concept cars designed on a new “Neue Klasse” platform, BMW also announced its intention to strengthen its range of electric vehicles… but not only that.
Indeed, if the “Neue Klasse” platform is optimized for electric vehicles, it is also multi-energy. So the prototype of the future BMW 3 Series with a thermal engine photographed by our scoop hunters, could well have it. Remember that this sedan will also exist in a 100% electric version and will be called BMW i3.
Simplicity of lines for the new models
The imposing camouflage of this prototype which is undergoing development sessions leaves no doubt about BMW’s new “Neue Klasse” design. If it moves away a little from that of the concept cars, it retains the sobriety of the sides, the simpler and taut lines. We discover a bodybuilder-type hood (which did not exist on the concept car) extended forward by a soft nose which goes as far as the grille. If the sedan concept car displayed slashes for the headlights, here we discover more traditional LED elements.
Smaller beans for the “Neue Klasse” range
Good news,a hypertrophied “double bean” grille on certain models in the current range (like the Series 4 for example), displays a “normal” size on this model, the exterior mirrors also see their size reduced somewhat. We also discover flush handles which should be generalized on all future models of the Munich brand. As for the thermal engine of this model, it is still kept secret, but the presence of four exhaust outlets indicates that it must be a fairly high-performance model.
A little wait to discover the new BMW 3 Series
This new BMW 3 Series will not arrive immediately on the European market since the start of its marketing is planned for 2026. Next year, however, we should have a good overview of what BMW plans for its new “Neue Klasse” range since it should be presented the BMW iX3 which will inaugurate the new platform. A new base which, for electric models, should have an 800 volt architecture.
