Yes, sorry, there have been a little less Gault et Millau of currywurst lately. The goal is that it doesn’t become an ersatz of “Super Size Me”, this film where a guy ate McDonald’s three times a day for a month. Because it’s already been done, first of all. And also because Morgan Spurlock, the actor in question, died at the beginning of the year at less than 54 years old… We don’t really know from what, but there is room for doubt. And I want to see the Euro organized jointly by the moon and Antarctica in 2044!
But as this Saturday lent itself quite well to an outing on the terrace and a stroll in a Berlin which experienced one of its first days of summer (apart from a new storm of very good size in the morning), a “pit stop” was necessary along the way. This was good because on some streets, there are plenty of Witty’s Currywurst lying around for people like me. And given the queue, it shouldn’t have been disappointing. But that was before tasting the sausage on offer…
You should always be wary of these dishes offered to people in “fashionable” neighborhoods. It’s good when you’re out of the club and all you have left to eat late at night. But I’m old, on the verge of “booming”, and when I go to spend the evening, it’s at a time of the night when the young people have not yet left their homes. They didn’t even fill their Fanta bottle with pure Vodka just for the road!
Arriving in front of Witty’s, which also claims to make you eat organic food, I said to myself that it should be pretty good. There was a line. Except that in fact, people were waiting in a platoon in front of the adjacent McDonald’s. So I was served in the space of a few seconds and that’s to the credit of this restaurant. As a bonus, the waiter asked me lots of questions, to which I answered a little randomly, because with his accent, I didn’t understand everything.
What is certain, and I accepted it, is that I asked for a sausage without the skin. And it was a good choice. The sauce was the same for everyone and there wasn’t even a secret ingredient for the road. Disappointment. The fries were frozen, but we felt that the oil was not eight days old and their consistency was appreciable. Afterwards, to eat, it was either in a corner of the stall, or on a bench outside and that is clearly points less.
