Dakar, June 21 (APS) – The Spanish city of Barcelona hosts from June 25 to 28 the 26e edition of the African Energy Forum, we learned from the organizers.

The event, placed under the theme: ”Energy Systems of the Future – Balancing Africa’s Needs with Global Goals”, will see participation of main players and investors from the continent, as well as its future leaders, adds the same source.

She also informs that four interactive discussions, covering vital areas such as project development, technological innovations, cross-sectoral opportunities and collaborations, will be on the program of this meeting.

For its organizers, the African Energy Forum constitutes ”the first platform for collaboration and innovation in the energy sector in Africa”.

According to a report published last February by S&P Global, the parent company of the American financial analysis and ratings agency, Standard & Poor’s, approximately 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa (up to 50% of the population of the region) do not have access to electricity.

The same study reveals that in addition, electricity demand in this part of the continent is expected to increase by almost 3% in 2024.

”This underlines the need to balance energy transition objectives with the availability of electricity,” she explains.
