Ford is preparing a new compact SUV for 2025, here’s what to expect

The first two versions of the Ford EcoSport, respectively marketed between 2003 and 2012 (internal code BV226) then from 2012 to 2022 (internal code B2E), were clearly sized for emerging markets. Moreover, the first opus never reached us, it was extensively modified to give the Ford Fusion, its successor initially developed for India and Brazil and attempted a breakthrough throughout the world. But he had difficulty convincing in Europe. Its poor quality of finish, its too short format and its antique hinged door instead of a tailgate did not speak in its favor.

Two attempts before a masterstroke?

This will not be the case for his successor expected in the summer of 2025. Openly targeting the Dacia Duster and the 5-seater versions of the Citroën C3 Aircross and Opel Frontera while awaiting the arrival in 2026 of their technical clone Fiat Multipla, the Ford EcoSport III will firstly benefit from a robust and harmonious style .

In Latin America, it will compete against the Renault Kardian while in India it will face the Renault Duster and its local twin badged Nissan. Could Ford be on the verge of creating its first global vehicle? Verdict in a few months.

But to know its look precisely it is not useful to wait until then. Based on proprietary patents that leaked onto the web, Russian illustrator Nikita Chuicko faithfully illustrated the vehicle. No more frail lines and the use of the spare wheel on the trunk (photo below) to artificially stretch its size from 4 meters to 4.27 m, counting the thickness of the fifth wheel. This time, the EcoSport will immediately be in the right format with a size certainly close to that of the Ford Puma but with a much more accessible price positioning and leaving it to the latter to play a 100% electric score which will not be at program for EcoSport.

The latter will not, however, be a seemingly low-cost vehicle. Indeed, the high-tech touch will be provided by a neat LED lighting signature and by vertical projectors installed in the corners of the shield like those of a Kia EV3. While the models of her dress will be rewarding.

Its strengths: ethanol and 4×4

Under the hood, the 2025 Ford EcoSport vintage will rely on the 1.0 EcoBoost three-cylinder gasoline engine, a unit that can be microhybrid and which also and above all as an asset, the possibility of drinking in E85 ethanol. Finally, like its predecessors, the new Ford EcoSport will be available in both two- and four-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is essential in certain countries where the road network is hardly suitable for vehicles.

For European markets, production of the Ford EcoSport will take place in the Spanish Almussafes factory located south of Valencia, unlike its predecessor, the examples of which intended for Europe came to life since the restyling of the model carried out in 2027 in the Romanian factory in Craiova.
