Equinix is expanding one of its data centers in Zurich. The data center operator is investing 40 million francs for this purpose.
Equinix launches the sixth phase of expansion of its ZH4 data center in Zurich. The data center will be equipped with 680 square meters of additional white space, reports the American company. Equinix is investing 40 million francs for this extension which should be completed in 2027.
The operator underlines the importance of the Zurich site. According to her, it is a strategic digital hotspot that offers customers direct access to a global ecosystem of more than 10,000 companies from a multitude of sectors, including the pharmaceutical industry, the financial sector, manufacturing industry or the luxury goods sector. 80% of Europe is accessible from Zurich in just 30 milliseconds, the press release specifies.
Switzerland is a key market for Equinix, explains Roger Semprini, Managing Director Switzerland of Equinix. “With the expansion of our ZH4 data center in the heart of the city, we are strengthening our presence in the strategic location of Zurich to meet our customers’ needs for highly secure and efficient data centers.”
Currently, Equinix’s two Zurich city data centers (ZH2 and ZH4) offer a usable floor space of 4,730 square meters, according to the latest market overview from data center operators in Switzerland. In addition to these two sites, Equinix operates a data center in Oberengstringen (ZH5) and two others in Geneva (GV1 and GV2) in our country. Globally, the company has 264 data centers in 33 countries.
