Production of the electric 500 should be stopped again in December. The final bouquet of a chaotic year for the small Fiat, whose sales have collapsed.

According to newspaper information Milan Finance, which were confirmed by a union source, production of the electric Fiat 500 will once again be stopped at the Mirafiori factory. The interruption should cover the entire month of December, with a resumption planned at the end of the Christmas holidays, on January 7, 2025.

However, assembly had just resumed after a very long break. Fiat had in fact stopped the production of its electric city car on September 13, initially for a few weeks, but the stoppage extended until the beginning of November. The premature end of the year 2024 could be explained by a lack of components from suppliers, even if Fiat would intend to produce more in November.

The concern mainly comes from sales, which have collapsed. To the point that faced with repeated situations of overfilled stocks, Fiat continues to interrupt. The brand had completely stopped assembly from June to August, with just a few weeks of resumption at the end of August/beginning of September, after the traditional summer break. At the start of the year, there had already been a pause then a period of slow operation at the factory. In the end, if we add up all the shutdowns, production was stopped for almost half of 2024.

The electric 500 had, however, had a nice start to its career. But the situation suddenly deteriorated for her. Sales should start to rise again when the electric 500 adopts a less expensive LFP battery. Above all, to boost production, the car will receive a mild hybridization engine. But this is not planned before the end of 2025.
