On Tuesday, November 12, the government presented an amendment providing support of 1.55 billion euros to decarbonize industry, “a notable development” compared to the initial draft 2025 budget, according to Bercy. The executive thus intends to support “large-scale private and public investments” directed towards “key projects to produce in while emitting less carbon”declared the Minister of the Economy, Antoine Armand, in a comment sent to AFP.

“This aid should make it possible to secure the achievement of national and European objectives by 2030 in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions”sets out the amendment. The text will be examined by the Senate as part of the “expenditure section” of the budget, after the rejection on Tuesday in the National Assembly of the bill largely modified by the left.

The amendment was also tabled identically by former Minister of Industry Roland Lescure, now vice-president of the National Assembly. Sunday, Roland Lescure signed an open letter with elected officials from all sides in La Tribune Sunday which asked the government to maintain public aid to companies for the decarbonization of industry in the 2025 budget, forced by public accounts in the red.

The government wants a budgetary effort of 60 billion euros in 2025, especially by reducing spending, “food for thought” are underway to identify savings measures in parallel, according to Bercy. At the end of 2022, Emmanuel Macron proposed a decarbonization pact to the 50 sites emitting the most CO2 in France. He had thus promised them a doubling of public aid to 10 billion euros in exchange for a doubling of their efforts in this area.
