A wave of panic for many families when it comes time to complete the tax return. “Many parents have not received the correct tax certificate for childcare costs. They risk losing their tax advantage”the League of Families was alarmed at the beginning of June.
This tax measure to support families is significant: childcare costs (crèche, internship, school daycare, youth movement camp, etc.) are deductible at 45% with a maximum of 15.70 euros per day and per child. under 14 years old (or under 21 years old in the event of a severe disability). According to the League of Families, more than half a million Belgian households benefit from this tax reduction each year.

From now on, organizations must complete model 281.86. “Until recently, there was a wide variety of certification types. The main objective of achieving greater uniformity and administrative simplification”, explains Florence Angelici, spokesperson for the FPS Finances. “The content of the new certificate model does not fundamentally differ from the old optional model. Only the mention of the national numbers of the debtor and the child are truly mandatory additional data. Childcare institutions therefore do not have to work in a radically different way with the new certificate.”
Florence Angelici assures her, this obligation aims to ensure that as many people as possible are entitled to tax reductions. “If taxpayers have not been able to obtain a compliant certificate, they will still be able to benefit from the tax reduction this year based on the certificate provided by the institution”specifies the spokesperson.
Although the FPS Finance has been asking to use this model for several years, it still grants a period of tolerance.
