This privatization, already carried out by Marine Le Pen in 2022, aims to make savings, supported the president of the RN on the France 3 set.
Jordan Bardella persists and signs. The boss of the RN confirmed on Sunday that he wanted to privatize “eventually” public broadcasting if the RN comes to power after the legislative elections. “The ambition that we had for the presidential election remains relevant, that of ultimately privatizing public broadcasting to save money (…) Obviously, that cannot be done in 24 hours”declared Jordan Bardella on France 3.

In 2022, during the last presidential election, the RN candidate, Marine Le Pen, planned the sale to the private sector of France Télévisions, Radio France and France Médias Monde. Last Monday, RN deputy Sébastien Chenu explained on BFMTV that the privatization of public broadcasting could “be implemented quickly” in the event of victory in the legislative elections. Considered to restore public finances, this measure “will bring in 3 billion euros”.
However, the law on media freedom (European Media Freedom Act), adopted last March, could well prevent this privatization. If the text does not prohibit it stricto sensu, it gives the public service a major role almost making it sacred. “The public service plays a special role in the media market, ensuring citizens and businesses benefit from impartial information coverage”thus specifies the text, adding that its financing must be ensured “in a transparent, sustainable and predictable manner”.
