Be careful if you have recently purchased cheese.

Portions of approximately 200 grams of Corsican sheep’s cheese of the brand Schoepfer have been recalled since this Friday, June 14 due to the presence of listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria responsible for listeriosis.

The batch concerned is 24024050, GTIN 3252540952692 and consumption deadline between June 23 and 29, informs the government site Rappel Conso.

This product was sold from June 5 to 10 in several stores in France, including the Intermarché de Roquefort-les-Pinsa Spar of Saint-Raphaël and the Lecasud supply center at Luke for the Leclerc centers in the Paca and Corsica regions.

Serious but rare infection

Listeriosis is a serious but rare infection and deadly “in 30 to 40% of cases occurring outside of pregnancy”, indicates the Pasteur Institute. Around 350 cases are recorded each year in mainland France.

“In adults, the disease results in an infection of the blood (sepsis), or even of the central nervous system, which then manifests itself mainly as meningoencephalitis (i.e. an infection of the meninges and brain ). In pregnant women, it can cause abortion, premature birth or serious neonatal infection.

The incubation period for listeriosis extends from “a few days to two months.

To limit the risks, it is recommended to “cook foods of animal origin thoroughly, remove the rind from all cheeses, wash vegetables and aromatic herbs thoroughly and cook products purchased ready to eat “caterer” well until boiling.”

If you purchased the sheep’s cheese that is the subject of the product recall, you are advised not to consume it and to contact the point of sale for a refund. A contact number has been set up at 04 90 13 61 52.
