The French pay €780 for subscriptions on average… and you?

A study shows that Europeans spend around 700 euros per year on multiple subscriptions, generating logistics and certain frustration. And you, how many subscriptions do you have? This is our question of the week.

In order to ensure regular income, many software and services have adopted the subscription format. If it is a format that adapts well to catalog services such as SVOD, it is also found with certain resellers to take advantage of offered services, software, gaming services, etc.

Every month, we spend several dozen, even several hundred euros, and it’s not going to stop any time soon. This summer, with the launch of Max, the Euro and the Olympics, many people will take out new subscriptions. But a weariness sets in.

€780 per year subscription

A study by the 3Gem agency on behalf of Bango and carried out on 5,000 people in five European countries (including 1,000 French men and women) looked into the question.

This study reveals that Europeans subscribe to 3.2 services on average (3 for France), which represents 696 euros per year. We note some disparities since Italy and Germany pay respectively 600 and 684 euros on average, compared to 814 and 780 euros respectively for the United Kingdom and France. We remain generally below the United States which pays on average 863 euros per year through 4.5 subscriptions.

At the top of the surveys, video streaming subscriptions are of course in the lead, since they are present among 70% of respondents. Retail subscriptions are second with only 44%. Next come music (34%), food (19%), gaming (18%), sport (17%), news (12%) and health/fitness (10%). This summer, this ranking could be turned upside down since 22% of Europeans plan to take out a new subscription to follow the Euro and 20% to follow the Olympics.

Enough is enough

Between the multiplication of services and the increases, the study reveals growing dissatisfaction among users. 42% of people surveyed say they have recently canceled a subscription due to a price increase and 60% say they cannot afford all the services they would like to subscribe to. You have to make choices, sometimes juggling between subscriptions, which leads to additional logistics and mental load.

On this point, operators and ISPs have a card to play in offering “ bundles ” Services. It is also not uncommon to be able to take out subscriptions to SVOD services with your internet package.

This has also caused some consumers to turn to piracy. According to the study, one in five Europeans now pirate all of their video content to find everything in one place.

And you ?

In France, the average is therefore 780 euros of subscriptions per year, or 65 euros per month. What about you? Not counting your internet and mobile plans, how much do you pay every month for your different services?
