Big changes coming for Proximus customers: we take stock

The start of 2025 already promises to be “complicated” for Proximus customers, who will experience significant price increases in a few weeks.

This is the big upheaval at Proximus, as the new year approaches. In recent weeks, the operator has announced a whole series of changes which will affect its customers in the very short term. We take stock of everything that will change.

Mobile subscriptions: a more expensive Roaming Pass

For the moment, Proximus has no plans to change the prices of its mobile subscriptions. The operator has, however, announced a small price increase for one of its options: Daily Roaming Passes (for use outside the EU) have seen their price increase by €1.54. With this paid option, the operator’s customers can continue to use their smartphone normally outside the European Union. However, this does not guarantee that mobile subscription rates will not increase later, during 2025. The operator is certainly waiting to see the positioning of its new rival DIGI, and the evolution of the market, before making a decision about this.

Internet subscriptions: price increase for the cheapest subscription

If you were a Proximus Essential subscriber, don’t panic, nothing will force you to change your subscription. If you are a new Proximus customer, however, you will be hit hard by a price increase of €11.99/month for the cheapest Internet subscription. Proximus Light (€39.99/month) replaces Proximus Essential (€28/month). The good news is that if the price increases, the subscription is also a little more generous since it goes from 100 to 200 GB of internet traffic, with a surfing speed which also goes from 50 to 100 MB/second .

Subscriptions in packs that all increase

Proximus packs are subject to a general price increase of 2 to 3€/month for most plans. In total, no less than 233 subscription plans are experiencing a price increase. This concerns both currently marketed offers (such as the Flex subscription) and old Internet offers/packs. The price increase will be effective on January 1, 2025.

3G is over

The operator had already announced it: its 3G network is experiencing its final hours. By December 31, all 3G antennas will have been disconnected. Owners of smartphones that are not compatible with 4G and 5G networks will then no longer be able to surf the Internet. They can rest assured, it will still be possible for them to send SMS and make calls thanks to the 2G network, which will remain active until 2029. According to Proximus, less than 1% of current traffic operates on 3G. The 3G antennas will be rehabilitated to extend the operator’s 4G/5G network.

A price increase for Pickx Sports

Pickx Sports, the bouquet of sports channels from Proximus, also sees its price increase from €18.99 to €20.99 per year. The price increase is also effective January 1, 2025.

A landline €2 more expensive

The Proximus landline will also see its price increase in January. From January 1, you will have to pay €31.13 instead of €29.13/month to continue making calls. A price increase which is likely to hurt a lot and above all to push a lot of customers to end their telephone subscription. It is a fact that for years now, the number of landlines has continued to decline in the country.
