The carpooling leader is launching a brand new offer that will allow users to travel cheaper.
To save money and optimize travel between individuals, carpooling has been established in France for many years. The Blablacar platform has thus become a market leader and to date has more than 100 million members across 22 countries. In France, 20 million use carpooling for medium and long distances and 60% of people registered are aged 18 to 35. But now the company is diversifying…
To allow its users to compare offers for all their trips, Blablacar now offers train tickets for Spain, initially, then for France by 2025-2026, revealed the director and co-founder of the application Nicolas Brusson to Figaro. This is a sale of TGV tickets from different operators, allowing travelers to better compare prices and choose the route that best suits their budget. Indeed, on SNCF Connect for example, tickets from competitors like Renfe or Trenitalia are not displayed. In this way, Blablacar will be able to centralize all transport options on its platform, favoring journeys by car and train. Saving time and money for travelers.
Furthermore, they will also have the choice of a combined offer, particularly if they opt for a train, whose arrival at the station is far from the place of residence. Rather than looking for a taxi at the last minute, travelers will be able to schedule a carpool trip to reach their destination.
This new project is a challenge for the company, because few competitors manage to establish themselves in the market for the sale of train tickets in France, rather dominated by SNCF Connect, which has nearly 85% of the market. But this new comparative system could also work in favor of the carpooling company, thus forcing market leaders to review their strategy, for the benefit of consumers.
