The unemployment rate in Quebec saw a slight increase of 0.2% during the month of October to stand at 5.7%, even if employment also increased by 0.1% during the same period. according to Statistics Canada data released Friday.

The number of part-time workers fell by 3.5% between September and October 2024 and by 7.1% in one year.

Conversely, full-time employees are slightly more numerous since they increased by 1% in October compared to the previous month and by 2.4% since October 2023.

The trend is similar at the national level since employment changed little, experiencing an increase of 15,000 new workers. “Compared to a year earlier, employment was up by 303,000 (+1.5%),” the federal agency said.

The unemployment rate remained at 6.5% for the 10the month of the year.

“Compared to a year earlier, the unemployment rate was up 0.8 percentage points in October, and the number of people looking for work or having been temporarily laid off increased by 193,000 (+15, 6%),” it was clarified.

More employees were engaged in business services, building services and other support services (+29,000; +4.2%).

The number of workers, however, decreased in finance, insurance, real estate services, rental and leasing services (-13,000; -0.9%) and in public administration (-8700; -0. 7%).
