The jobs concern the southern part of the Toledo factory, where Jeep cars are assembled, and which will now only operate with one team instead of two, specifies the manufacturer Stellantis, parent company of Peugeot, Fiat and Chrysler.

Furthermore, certain activities, i.e. 400 employees, “will be transferred to an external service provider” announced the group.

Stellantis cuts jobs to “adapt production to sales”, which plunged in the third quarter by 20% to 1.15 million vehicles delivered.

The automotive group's turnover collapsed over this period in North America (-42%, to 12.4 billion euros) due to a drop in sales and promotions launched to reduce inventory. vehicles.

These steps are difficult to take, but they are necessary to allow the company to regain its competitive advantage and ultimately return its production to previous levels.

The layoffs will take place “from January 5, 2025”. Stellantis has 19 sites in the United States where approximately 52,000 people are employed. The main assembly plants manufacture Jeep, Dodge, Ram and are located in Michigan, Detroit, Ohio and Illinois.

In Europe too, Stellantis is facing difficulties. Sales are at half mast and the 3rd quarter results confirm this. They fell by 27% to reach a level of 33 billion euros.
