Born and educated in Spain, Professor Rosa Menéndez is known worldwide for her work in chemistry, materials science and engineering, dedicated to the design and development of new carbon-based materials.
Its research aims to solve industrial and societal problems, particularly in the areas of energy transition, biomedical technologies and environmental protection, the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL) said in a press release on Thursday. .

The scientist will receive the Erna Hamburger Prize at EPFL next Monday on the campus of the Lausanne high school. During this ceremony, the professor at the Carbon Science and Technology Institute of the Higher Council for Scientific Research in Spain will present a presentation on carbon-based materials.
The WISH Foundation selected the 2024 laureate in recognition of her groundbreaking contributions to materials and energy science, according to the laudatio. Rosa Menéndez is also the first woman to chair the Higher Council for Scientific Research in Spain.
Since 2006, the Erna Hamburger Prize has recognized influential female scientists who are transforming their field of research and working for change. The prize is awarded each year by the EPFL-WISH Foundation (Women In Science and Humanities). Erna Hamburger was the first woman appointed full professor at EPFL.
