Dual mode learning is in brilliant form in the canton of Neuchâtel. It continued to gain ground this year to now represent nearly 81% of the workforce in professional training.
In-company apprenticeship remains largely in the majority (80.8%) compared to the full-time school route, the Department of Training, Finance and Digitalization (DFFD) said on Wednesday. The dualization of vocational training has increased by more than 12 percentage points in the space of ten years. In 2015, the number stood at 68%.
“The policy pursued by the canton is bearing fruit,” noted State Councilor Crystel Graf during a presentation at the Careers Forum in La Chaux-de-Fonds. By taking into account the needs of the labor market, by maintaining a close link between theory and practice, apprenticeship offers many advantages, notes the press release.
“Sustainable access to the labor market”
For young people, the solution promotes “sustainable access to the job market and offers prospects for advancement”. “Dual mode learning works with organizations in the world of work, training companies, the canton, young people and their parents,” added the minister responsible for the file.
In total, dual mode apprenticeship brings together 4,195 people in training, a little less than in 2023, when there were 4,369. The trend, however, remains positive, with more than 200 additional contracts in ten years. For 10th and 11th grade students, the number of internships in companies continues to grow.
Opening of two sustainable development sectors
“The development demonstrates the interest of young people in discovering a wide range of professions, specifies the DFFD press release. Finally, professional certification in adulthood also marks progress with an increase in the number of certified people and the number of training entries.
Among the new training courses is the opening of two courses in the field of sustainable development. In line with the growing needs in solar energy, two apprenticeships began at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. These are the CFC for solar installer and the AFP for solar installer.
