Hyundai is recalling certain 2025 model year Tucson SUVs and Santa Cruz pickup trucks due to an issue that causes the vehicle to move out of Park and start rolling.
The recall concerns 42,465 models, including 35,560 Tucson and 6905 Santa Cruz. The recall is announced on the United States side for the moment. In Canada, no units of the Tucson are affected by this campaign, but 591 units of the Santa Cruz are.

The problem
According to the American NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the equivalent of Transport Canada, the recall is attributable to a wiring harness that was allegedly improperly installed in the console. Said harness can come into contact with the mechanical locking system of the gear selector. If necessary, the model may be left from the parking position without the brake pedal being pressed, and thus start to roll on its own.
Hyundai recommends that owners continue to use their parking brake and of course always place the gear selector in Park (P).
Owners will have to go to dealerships to have the repair carried out. The latter is simple; technicians will route the wiring harness away from the gear selector mechanical device.
NHTSA says Hyundai will contact dealers before January 19, 2025.
