There, we're talking about billions, the stock market, capitalization… And in this area, it's a Californian company that pulls the strings. Nvidia, the American semiconductor giant, closed on Tuesday in the position of largest global capitalization, after overtaking Apple during the session, a sign of the intact appetite for artificial intelligence (AI) stocks.
The group now has a capitalization of 3,431 billion dollars, ahead of the 3,377 billion of the Apple firm. And this is not a first for the Santa Clara group which regularly gets into trouble with Apple. Nvidia had already closed on the roof of the world in mid-June, before losing its rank. He briefly stepped over Apple again at the end of October, for only a few minutes.
A technological breakthrough for AI
Nvidia's strength is to be considered the most advanced semiconductor manufacturer in the graphics card market, these chips with increased computing capabilities compared to a conventional microprocessor. Called GPU (graphics processing unit), they are considered essential to the development of so-called generative AI.
A technological advance which allows Nvidia to now be the world's largest capitalization, even if it must be recognized, its stock market value has already been higher than at the close on Tuesday. Already at the end of October, the Californian company had reached $3.542 billion. The record remains the property of Apple, whose capitalization climbed in mid-October to $3.610 billion.
Since the beginning of October 2022, just before the arrival of ChatGPT, the value of Nvidia shares has multiplied by more than eleven. Nvidia will enter the flagship Dow Jones index on Friday, in which it will replace its competitor Intel.
