New twists and turns within Operation Libero, the movement co-chaired by Sanija Ameti, who caused a scandal by publishing a photo of Jesus and Mary riddled with bullets.
The entire Eastern Switzerland committee of Operation Libero resigned due to Sanija Ameti remaining as co-chair. The committee believes that the politician, who shot an image of Jesus and Mary, is not compatible with its values.
According to the NZZ, the committee informed its members on Saturday evening of this collective resignation. Stefan Manser-Egli, co-president, confirmed the information on Monday.
“Sanija Ameti’s shooting of an image of Jesus and Mary crossed the line”
Statement from the president of the Eastern Switzerland section Bruno Zanvit.
The latter would have liked the movement to be more attentive to the reactions and proposals made by the Eastern Switzerland section after the affair broke out.
Twelve complaints filed
Operation Libero has six regional sections. According to Stefan Manser-Egli, only the Eastern Switzerland section opposed the retention of Sanija Ameti as co-president.
A dozen complaints were filed against her with the Zurich Public Prosecutor’s Office. Justice must now examine whether the shooting by the Green Liberal politician (PVL) of an image representing Jesus and Mary constitutes a violation of freedom of belief and worship.
The 32-year-old posted a photo on Instagram of the image of Jesus and Mary riddled with bullets from an air gun. Shortly after this publication, the Young UDC and the anti-vax movement “Mass-Voll” announced that they had filed complaints against the co-president of Operation Libero.
Since the affair broke out, Ameti has lost her job at a public relations agency and left the leadership of the Zurich cantonal section of the Green Liberals. The Swiss PVL has indicated that its continuation harms the reputation of the party. He considers that the conditions are met for an exclusion procedure. (sda/ats)
