The Brabus Big Boy 1,200: 12m and 26 tons of joy.
No need to introduce the German preparer, who has been virilizing, among other things, Mercedes for 47 years. But the time must no longer be for the Brabus G-Class designed for adventurers with a driver, or is this market too small to run the business.
So, in Bottrop, in North Rhineland, at the company’s headquarters, we are trying to diversify by surfing on the fad of the moment: vanlife. And as in Brabus, there is a bus, the staff together said to themselves that there was something to be done. Some time later, the Brabus Big Boy 1 200 was born. He is almost what Booba would be at the opera: an incongruity.
A 30m2 studio
This big boy deserves his name since heIt weighs 26 tonnes, measures 12 m and develops 530 hp. To tear it off, no problem, its torque is 2,600 Nm at 1,100 rpm. This base which was used to develop the machine is obviously signed by Mercedes, with its Actros.
As Brabus’s customers have their requirements, and like to make themselves comfortable, the Big Boy pushes back its walls (only when stationary). As a result, its passenger compartment widens to 4.50 m and it offers the size of a comfortable 30m2 studio.
But a studio is not, in general, covered in Alcantara, leather, black wood and carbon, while the Brabus is full of them even on its walls. Just as a studio, even furnished, rarely plans to offer, as standard among its equipment, a wine cellar. In addition to the induction hob, oven, fridge and freezer, obviously.
A wine cellar and a natural stone bathtub
Bedroom side, the bed is obviously king-size 160×200 with several electrically adjustable positions. The basis of vanlife. The machine also has a bathroom. Or rathera bathroom, with a natural stone bathtub, for those who prefer to relax rather than go through the rain shower cabin as they should.
The water reserve? No worries, it is 427 liters and it would be petty to point out that the big boy has solar panels and underfloor heating, which a good, somewhat cautious adventurer cannot neglect.
So, of course, we can wonder who this type of machine could be aimed at. Especially since it does not exceed 90 km/h, and requires its driver to have a heavy goods vehicle license, which few billionaires have in their portfolio. But when we can spend 1.5 million eurosthe price of this big boy, for a camper van which we will only use for a few days a year, we can perfectly afford the services of a driver.
