The Geneva Music Festival will be held on June 21, 22 and 23. More than 500 artistic events are on the program for this 33rd edition, the City of Geneva announced on Tuesday. Professional and amateur artists will perform on 32 stages scattered in and around the Old Town.

The Fête de la Musique is the largest event organized by the City of Geneva. This year, the event is taking over new venues, such as the Court of the Palais de Justice and the International Museum of the Reform, for classical music and the Plainpalais Skatepark which will host Caribbean rhythms.

At the Museum of Art and History (MAH), the Chiome d’Oro Ensemble will mix baroque music and aerial dance. The Dinu Lipatti room, on the first floor of the Place Neuve conservatory, will host baroque music concerts, including an English company which will perform in period costumes.

The Franck Martin room will be the scene of an unusual encounter between a cycling ballet and a symphony orchestra. The Crypte stage, at Parc des Bastions, will be embraced by the tentacles of Le Poulpe, a “restaurant-bar-concert hall” which has been offering free concerts in Reignier, in neighboring France, for 18 years.

Sustainability

The “20 mille Lieux” truck, a mobile stage in operation since 2021, will stop at the Parc des Bastions. The project aims to circulate culture in Geneva’s municipalities. For three days, the traveling stage will settle in the St-Léger corner, with concerts “as intimate as they are roaring”.

For years, the City of Geneva has taken particular care to make the Fête de la Musique a sustainable event. Thus, there is no longer single-use tableware in the stands, but reusable tableware. PET bottles will also be banned from the stages, with musicians invited to bring their own water bottles.

The budget for the Fête de la Musique amounts to just over 1.3 million francs. The event will take place on Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The concerts are free, but the number of places is limited for certain performances.
