Charging an electric car in buildings: this staggering bad figure

Barely more than 3% of buildings have a collective charging infrastructure. But installations will finally accelerate.

If the installation of charging stations on public property continues at a good pace (with almost 130,000 points in service at the end of April), as for collective housing, the situation remains very unsatisfactory, although there is a right at the socket. However, one element can provide some reassurance and prove that the situation will finally improve. If the number of buildings equipped is 8,383, the number of buildings which have validated an installation is significantly higher, since it is 28,673. Which therefore represents one building in ten. The trembling is seen in the progression of installations, with + 15.7% of buildings equipped between the end of 2023 and March 2024.

However, residents did not wait for a collective proposal to have a charging solution. According to the barometer, 15,996 individual charging points are deployed in collective residential areas. The barometer specifies that the real number is even a little higher, because the number communicated currently only takes into account the charging points installed by a private AFOR operator. Avere indicates that the Advenir program has already contributed financially to the installation of 19,101 individual charging points by March 31, 2024.
