The household savings rate recovered in the second quarter of 2024, standing at 14.8%, according to figures published Tuesday by the National Bank of Belgium (BNB). Their investment rate appears to be falling.
The household savings rate stood at 14.8% in the second quarter of 2024. Their disposable income continued to increase (+2%), while their final consumption expenditure remained fairly stable (+0.1 %), causing the savings rate to inflate.
During this period, the household investment rate also stood at 8.5%, compared to 8.7% in the previous quarter.
For non-financial companies, the margin rate fell to 41.9%, compared to 42.1% in the first quarter. Their investment rate stood at 28.4% of value added in the second quarter of 2024, a clear increase compared to the previous quarter (27%).
Finally, the public administration deficit widened in the second quarter of 2024. For this period, their financing balance showed a deficit of 5% of GDP, compared to 3.2% in the previous quarter.
