The death was declared on Wednesday October 16 at the Nantes University Hospital, a little over a month after the dramatic accident. The 17-year-old teenager hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing on September 8, 2024 on Boulevard de la Prairie in Ancenis, died, we learned from the Nantes public prosecutor’s office and the gendarmerie. The young girl was treated in an absolute emergency by the firefighters and the Samu after the accident.

Manslaughter

The tragedy occurred around 3 p.m. that day. The teenager was leaving work at the McDonald’s in Ancenis. She had started to cross Boulevard de la Prairie (departmental 723) on a pedestrian crossing when the car arrived. The 87-year-old driver explains not having seen her, despite clear visibility and dry weather. The pedestrian was approaching from the right of the driver. The impact with the windshield was particularly violent. The motorist’s toxicological tests were negative.

After the victim’s death, the criminal investigation was reclassified as manslaughter. The octogenarian is accused of “manifestly deliberate violation of a particular obligation of safety or prudence”. She will be summoned before the Nantes criminal court. In the meantime, the prefecture should take an administrative measure to suspend his driving license.
