The Casino group’s difficulties forced the brand to sell its stores in Auchan, Intermarché and Carrefour. This Thursday, a new round of Casino supermarkets changed their name to become Intermarché or Netto.
New decor, new products and new prices. Customers of 294 Casino supermarkets bought by the Mousquetaires are gradually discovering the new face of their stores. After changing the brand of a first wave of 58 stores in October 2023, the Mousquetaires are tackling 64 new stores by the end of May. A majority went under the Intermarché or Netto brand this Thursday, May 16. A small number are located in the South-West, where Intermarché is already well established, at:
- Blagnac (Haute-Garonne)
- Fleurance (Gers)
- Arcachon (Gironde)
- Boé (Lot-et-Garonne)
- Perpignan and Bolquère (Pyrénées-Orientales)
- Valencia (Tarn-et-Garonne)
- Idron and Sauvagnon (Pyrénées-Atlantiques)
A buyout at 1.35 billion euros
The remaining stores will be transformed between June and October. Of the 294 Casino stores purchased, the Mousquetaires will put 257 supermarkets and 37 hypermarkets under their colors. Amount of investment: 1.35 billion euros.
A large number of stores will become Intermarché. The rest will take the Netto brand, the discount brand of Les Mousquetaires, in competition with Lidl or Aldi. Find the list of new stores in our interactive map.
A store every 12 km
With the acquisition of the Casino stores, the Mousquetaires will offer a store every 12 km to French consumers. The group is counting on a growth objective of +40% over 5 years, indicates mass distribution specialist Olivier Dauvers.
Tuesday May 14, 31 of the 96 Casino stores bought by Auchan had changed brands after 15 days of closure. The objective was to reduce this closure period as much as possible to revive commercial activity and attract new customers. On Friday, Casino stores bought by Carrefour will reopen, such as in Albi or Tarbes-Laloubère.
