In an interview with LCN, the president of Go Consigne recalled that, for several years now, his company has been collecting various returnable containers, whether in return centers or directly to citizens’ homes.
From 1is March 2025, however, the company will add multi-layer cardboard containers, such as pints of milk, juice, plastic water bottles, etc. to its list.
“The plastic water bottle […] there are two billion in Quebec per year,” underlined Martin Gagné. “If it is drunk, it will be recorded, regardless of the material. Glass, aluminum, plastic, cardboard… but it has to be between 100 milliliters and 2 liters.”
If citizens cannot go to a return center, Go Consigne collects “mixed bags” directly in front of the front door and takes care of the transport.
“We will identify it with a QR code. […] We provide the equivalent credit to your Go Consigne account, and we will keep 38% for our operations,” he explained.
Concretely, for 100 containers which will be equivalent to $10 deposit, the company will keep $3.80 and the citizen $6.20.
From the moment $20 is accumulated, it is possible to request a money transfer to your account.
In addition to having recently abolished the transport costs which had until now been recorded, the company announced on Tuesday that citizens would now have the possibility of offering their credit to a homeless person.
“The citizen can scan the QR code of the homeless person and [quand ce dernier] will receive the money, we will give him a reloadable credit card,” explained Mr. Gagné.
The company currently has 30,000 users, according to the president.
