In Spain, after the mourning and shock of the floods, it is now the fear of epidemics which worries the authorities. While the mask has returned to people's faces, the streets are still littered with trash and car wrecks.
In Sedavi, in the suburbs of Valencia, the task is titanic 13 days after the tragedy. Debris and car wrecks still block the mud-covered streets. The inhabitants seem helpless in the face of the disaster. Not far away, in the Albufera nature reserve, rescuers are searching for bodies. In Zodiac, with the help of a dog, they inspect every corner of the lagoon littered with waste.
In Paiporta, the most affected municipality, firefighters are propping up damaged buildings and reinforcing structures to be able to explore the rubble in search of the 41 people still missing in the province. It will take many weeks before things return to normal. Some road infrastructure was damaged. The Prime Minister, criticized for the lack of responsiveness of the State, has just announced a support plan for the region of 3.8 billion euros.
