American forces carried out strikes on Monday, November 11, against nine targets linked to groups supported by Iran in Syria in response to attacks against Washington's troops in the country, the Pentagon announced.
“These strikes will diminish the capacity of [ces] groups to plan and launch attacks against U.S. and coalition forces”declared the Pentagon, referring to the international coalition against the jihadist organization Islamic State (IS) deployed in Syria.
The Pentagon did not specify which groups were targeted or report casualties.
Jihadist cells still active
But according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the strikes killed four members of groups linked to Iran.
The United States has deployed around 2,500 troops in Iraq and 900 in Syria as part of an international coalition created in 2014 to fight ISIS, which had taken control of entire swaths of Syrian and Iraqi territory before being defeat in 2019.

But jihadist cells remain active, particularly in rural and remote areas, outside major cities.
