Kia Sportage, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Crosstrek or Subaru Forester?

“I ordered a Subaru Crosstrek 2024 to replace my 2021 Crosstrek with which I am completely satisfied. Since the family will soon be growing with a child and a dog to come, I fear I will regret my choice. So I’m hesitating between opting for the 2024 Crosstrek that I had in mind and instead turning to a basic Subaru Forester, a Nissan Rogue or one Kia Sportage. I want to stay in a rental, and I’m looking for reasonable fuel consumption, good reliability and good driving pleasure. » – Pierre-Olivier

Answer

Hello Pierre-Olivier,

It is certain that the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is a good choice, but it is certainly smaller than the others. The space it provides in the second row is good for a subcompact vehicle, but certainly can’t compete with the space a compact SUV can provide. Additionally, the need for space depends greatly on what you will be doing with the vehicle.

Do you often travel long distances? If so, plan to do it with your child? How big is your dog? Do you go camping? In short, I think that a Subaru Crosstrek is a great choice for everyday driving, and that it can easily accommodate a child. However, if you have special travel or leisure needs, space may be lacking. Keep in mind that the Crosstrek has a roof rack that can help transport loads or luggage, in a transport box or basket, for special occasions. If these considerations suit you, I suggest you stick with the Crosstrek.

Compact SUVs

If you feel you’ll be short on space, I think the best idea would be to go for a Forester. It’s definitely the logical continuation of the Crosstrek, offering more space and user-friendliness in the second row, while not being much bigger than the Crosstrek. However, it is certain that the Forester is more expensive than the Crosstrek with equal equipment, which will force you to choose a less equipped model in order to respect the budget you initially had.

What could help you, however, is the upcoming renewal of the Subaru Forester, which will arrive for a new generation. There are therefore undoubtedly 2024 Foresters left, the generation of which will soon end in dealerships. You may be able to obtain some discounts, making the monthly vehicle lease payment more attractive.

As for the other models mentioned, I would avoid the Nissan Rogue. It’s not that it lacks space, but rather that its 3-cylinder engine is not convincing due to its rather high fuel consumption and its inadequate efficiency.

For its part, the Kia Sportage LX is not uninteresting, but its power is rather low for such a large vehicle, which increases fuel consumption. Additionally, it’s not a very fun vehicle to drive, mainly due to its low power and rather soft suspension, which violates one of your criteria.

So whether it’s the Crosstrek or the Forester, I would stay with Subaru.
