Despite the opening of a new car park, there is a lack of parking spaces in the town center of Guéret. The municipality provides additional spaces and encourages walking. Not all residents are convinced.

“During the week, when everyone is working, it’s complicated to find a free place” testifies a resident of Guéret.
To try to provide a solution to this observation, a new free car park, near the city center, has just opened in Guéret. 82 additional spaces, in the former Enedis car park, with the aim of relieving congestion at Place Bonnyaud, particularly during peak hours. A week after opening, the first opinions on the market are mixed.
“It may be far away for people who have difficulty getting around, who have difficulty walking. Here I have a shopping cart, but if I had baskets I think it would be a little far away” notes this resident.
“Perhaps now with the parking at the EDF there will be less hassle with parking, but during the week it is complicated”observes another.
When the weather is nice, it’s a pleasure to walk, but when it rains it’s more complicated.

The municipality is seeking to provide access to the heart of the city while providing relief to Marouzeau College. But on the merchant side, we point out certain difficulties for customers.
“They have to go back and forth so they put what they already have in their car, then they come back to do the market. When the weather is nice, it’s a pleasure, but when it rains it’s a little complicated for them” observes Nadeesha Torlet, market gardener who sells her products on the market.
The number of places in the city center is very limited. With this 500,000 euro project, the municipality intends to facilitate access to the city via the administrative city, during opening hours.
“We can only encourage people to walk a little bit. It will be difficult to provide additional parking immediately near the shops, except that the development of Place Bonnyaud will offer around twenty additional spaces by mid-October” explains Pierre Widmann, director of technical services for the town of Guéret.
Another project is currently being studied in the former Leader Price car park, with the result of opening around fifty additional spaces.
