LThe share of workers sick for a single day in companies with at least 50 employees increased from 5.44% in the first half of 2022 to 9.11% during the first six months of 2024. These figures are revealed on Saturday by the provider of Securex HR services in L’Écho and De Tijd.
There have never been so many day sick people as in the first half of 2024, notes Securex according to the analysis of data from 164,781 workers from 21,689 companies in the private sector. This jump in two years is explained by the law, which came into force on November 28, 2022, according to which employees of large companies are exempt from providing a medical certificate when they are sick for a single day. This possibility is limited to three days per year.
The trend is stronger among employees (20.25% compared to 12.74% in 2022) than among workers (16.87% compared to 8.74% two years earlier), Securex further reports.
It should be noted, however, that the share of workers sick for a day in companies with fewer than 50 employees has also increased in two years (less than 5% in 2022 to 6.39% in 2024), even if the law on November 28, 2022 is not applied.
