meatless nuggets sold in from October 8

The most famous fast food in the world is reinventing itself and offering vegetarian nuggets. From October 8, it will be possible to find them in all McDonald’s in .

This is a novelty in France for the American fast-food giant. Starting this Tuesday, October 8, vegetarian nuggets will appear in all McDonald’s in France. The group will in fact add a vegan version of its flagship product.

The “veggie McPlant nugget”, a vegetarian alternative to the essential chicken McNuggets, will be available in all of the brand’s 1,562 restaurants in France. “The objective is to respond to consumer demand around the variety of proteins on our menu,” explains the chief marketing officer (CMO) of McDonald’s France, Jean-Guillaume Bertola in a press release.

Still according to the latter, this innovation is a huge step forward for the brand: “there has never been such a novelty on a product as iconic as the nugget”.

However, it reassures regular consumers of “classic” nuggets. The objective of this approach is not to replace the previous product: “it is not a question of trapping, but of offering something other than animal protein (…) and of playing on a product that the consumer love it”. The price will not be different from the original product, namely between approximately 3.50 to 4.50 euros for a box of four depending on the prices charged in the group’s various franchised restaurants. “A mid-range price,” underlines Jean-Guillaume Bertola.

A protein alternative

Although the final recipe remains a secret, some information is known: “there is a protein base of yellow peas, a breading made of wheat flour and corn flour, and notes of pepper and celery” .

The major difference between the two products would be on the texture, slightly different. Jean-Guillaume Bartola reassures his loyal customers by ensuring that regulars will not feel a major difference between the two.

France is not the only country in which the American giant has launched this product. They have actually been available in Germany since 2023.
