The winners had registered in the “Friday the 13th group” and won $5 million on September 14, thanks to a free ticket, Loto Québec said Friday in a press release.
They had the opportunity to get to know each other and celebrate their victory in a festive atmosphere when they received their prize from Loto-Québec.
Each member of the group pocketed $250,000, with the exception of Montrealer Alain Richard, who, having purchased two shares, pocketed half a million dollars. “It comes at the right time,” he said.
Raynald Cusson, a resident of Centre-du-Québec, created the online group and chose to name it “the Friday the 13th group”.
For Jérémie Gagnon, a thirty-year-old from Montérégie, this lot comes as he is on the verge of a professional change. Indeed, the jackpot represents a financial cushion for several members of the group.
Anik Forest, who lives in the Laurentians, received the call from Loto-Québec informing him of his win during a power outage. Just as she learned she had won $250,000, the electricity came back on.
The winners are from the Capitale-Nationale, Centre-du-Québec, Laurentides, Montérégie, Montreal and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.
This is the seventh time that the Classic Jackpot has been won in Quebec.
